RM356,860 Ecstasy pills via the post

Kota Kinabalu: Customs officers detained a 54-year-old man and seized ecstasy pills worth RM356,860 at the post office, here, last Tuesday. The suspect was remanded seven days and faces the death penalty if convicted. This was the first case this year involving attempts to smuggle drugs through post.State Director Datuk Hamzah Sundang said 10,196 pills weighing about 4kg were found concealed in a bag containing clothes which was kept in a box believed to be posted from the Netherlands based on the posting receipt at about 12pm.

"A Customs officer inspected the bag by using a scanner, producing an image that was deemed fishy."Customs officers from the narcotics department took further action by opening the box, revealing a red luggage bag filled with clothes. Based on the delivery slip, the drugs were shipped from Netherlands to Sandakan.

The case is under investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for distribution of dangerous drugs. - Locksley Ng
