S'kan lass bags 100m gold

Sandakan: Host runner Nur Aishah Rofina Aling, 18, sprinted to gold in the women's 100m of the 8th Sabah Games athletics events at the Sandakan Sports Complex Stadium on Tuesday.Aishah won the 100m dash in a time of 12.56 seconds.In second place winning the silver medal was Tuaran's Feova Lim Yi Fei with a time of 13.01 seconds, taking bronze in third was Tawau's Miana Masinta Masusah (13.24s) while Ranau's Rujiah Juhamin (13.27s) was in fourth place.

Aishah said it was her target to win the 100m dash at this year's Games as she had begun training immediately after she completing her SPM examinations. She had failed to emerge victorious at the Tawau Saga in 2015.She said her training was held five times a week and she dedicated the victory to her coach, Sandakan, parents and all who supported her.Aishah is a Form 6 student of SMK Muhibbah Sandakan.The women's 100m record is still held by Tawau's Fathin Faqihah Mohd Yusof with a time of 12.39s.

Aishah will also be competing in the 200m and 4x100m events.Meanwhile, the men's 100m event, saw gold medallist Muhammad Din Norbik from Kota Belud winning with a time of 10.89s, Sandakan's Mohammad Noor took silver with 10.98s, bronze went to Rey Dern of Tuaran (11.23s) while Sandakan's Mohd Arif Farhan Ali finished fourth (11.32s).

Meanwhile, the finals for the women's triple jump, men's shot-put, women's discus, men's 400m hurdles and women's 400m hurdles was also scheduled on Tuesday evening.Seven other finals were also schedule on Tuesday night which include men's long jump, women's high jump, women's javelin, men's and women's 800m as well as the men's and women's 4x100m. - Mardinah Jikur
