Man charged with robbing woman of RM4,356 in outlet

Kota Kinabalu: A 20-year-old was charged with robbing a woman of RM4,356.70 cash while armed with a machete (parang).Mohd Hasyim Hamsi, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim to robbing the woman at an entertainment outlet in a shopping mall here at 1.40am on Nov 26, this year.The offence under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 14 years jail and whipping, on conviction.

However, the court deferred Mohd Hasyim's sentencing to Jan 11 next year pending his social report.He was ordered remanded further pending the date.The court heard that the complainant lodged a report at 4.45am claiming that she was robbed at the entertainment outlet on that day. The complainant, who is an employee at the entertainment outlet, saw a man later identified as Mohd Hasyim lingering around the premises.

She thought that Mohd Hasyim was a customer and went out from a room to open the door, Mohd Hasyim suddenly held her hands, threatened her with the machete and demanded money from her.The woman, fearing for her safety, then surrendered money to Mohd Hasyim who then fled the scene.
