Farmer, 74, denies causing grievous hurt to son-in-law

Kota Kinabalu: A 74-year-old farmer was charged with causing grievous hurt to his 46-year-old son-in-law.Sapinah Munching pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad after the charge was read in Dusun, Thursday.He is accused of assaulting one Majinggol Asik by using a machete outside a house in Kg Piasau, Kota Belud at 10pm on Dec 5 this year.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.Deputy Public Prosecutor Akmazatul Mohamed Nawi objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence.However, Sapinah who was not represented, requested for bail, saying that he is already old and suffering from knee pain.Ainul fixed Jan 22 next year for case management and March 7 for trial.ADVERTISEMENT Sapinah was granted bail of RM10,000 with RM500 deposited in a local surety.In another court, seven men were sentenced to four and five months' jail each for illegal entry.
