Sharity of Hope's Christmas Book Party
Published on: Sunday, December 17, 2017

Penampang: Some 20 volunteers of Sharity of Hope (an ad hoc group of Facebook friends) brought cheer to 80 children at Kg Kipouvo, a 30-minute drive from the township here, in what is called Sharity of Hope's Christmas Book Party 2017, recently.

Chairperson of Kg Kipouvo Village Security and Development Committee, Anne Lasimbang, who helped in organising the party, graced the occasion.

The visiting group brought with them lots of goodies for the children, including food, stationery, hygiene products, lunchboxes and bottles, and preloved clothes and toys.

On top of it, a total of about 500 brand new books worth about RM4,000 were distributed to the children that day.

The event, as a culmination of two months' donation drive from the general public, is an annual event with SMK Majakir's Form Six English Teacher Audrey Koh as Organising Chairperson. The previous two children's Christmas parties were in Bundu Tuhan.

Koh said the Sharity of Hope runs this programme every year, not just to benefit the children of rural areas but also to spend quality time with them and teach them the value of giving back to the community.

"It was a joy to see our children mingle with the village folk and spend their time bonding, laughing and playing," she added.

The children participated in all the activities dubbed "Staple Chase" where they literally chased for staples on their registration card for each activity station completed. The children collected staples for participating in activities like ukelele sing-a-long, story-telling, futsal, fox and chicken, funfair games, decorating some cookies, doodling on the official banner and doing some arts and crafts as well as collecting free balloons sponsored by Jude Chong, Sabah's Balloon Man.

The children also received official goodie bags donated by DMK Collections, Ranau, which were filled with stationery, hygiene products, snacks and drinks donated by the generous public through the Facebook Donation Drive.
