Kota Kinabalu: State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Noor said Sabah and Sarawak are the best examples of 1Malaysia concept at work since time immemorial and this fact has been acknowledged time and again by the initiator of the concept himself, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. He said Sabahans comprising people of different races and religions had no problem living in peace and harmony and helping one another since their ancestors' time. He was attending a dinner to mark the anniversary of Tuaran's Yu Huang temple, Friday.

Hajiji, who is Sulaman Assemblyman, cited as an example that he never rejected an invitation by the temple and other Chinese NGOs and schools unless he was outstation.

"Attending a temple function is no problem for me. It does not make me less Muslim," he quipped, adding as long as he does not take part in the praying sessions or religious rituals.

The Minister also thanked Chinese schools for readily accepting Bumiputera students to the extent that in some Chinese schools more than half of the pupils are Bumiputeras.

"In a Chinese primary school in my constituency for example, 70pc of the pupils are Bumiputeras," he pointed out.

He said this also showed the extent of racial tolerance in Sabah and that it was good for unity and integration because the young of today will be our future leaders.

Also present were Tamparuli community development leader Datuk Jahid Jahim and Temple Advisor Datuk Peter Chong.
