Held for killing brother-in-law

Kota Kinabatangan: A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of having murdered his brother-in-law at Mananggol Farm, here, at 2.35pm on Monday, while he was asleep.District Police Chief Supt A. Sahak Rahmat said it was believed that the crime took place at 5am the same day. According to a witness who was at the house at the time of the incident, the suspect battered the victim who was aged more than 60 to death as he was asleep in the living room.

Sahak said an investigation team arrived at the scene after receiving a report on the incident and found the victim lying in the living room, covered in blood and wrapped in a "sarong".He said investigations showed that the victim suffered two wounds on his head and bruised eyes. The witness said the victim was sleeping in the living room at around 2am and the suspect arrived at the house around 5am after celebrating the New Year by boozing at his friend's house. The suspect then changed clothes and took a wooden weapon outside the house before battering the victim to death, while he was asleep. It was believed that the cause of the incident was due to an argument a week before, where the suspect had threatened the victim with a parang.

Sahak said the suspect was arrested at the Gomantong Farm office here following information by Gomantong Farm.Also seized were two wooden sticks and fragments of wood that were found at the scene. Sahak said the body was sent to the Hospital Duchess of Kent for an autopsy and the case will be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - Mardinah Jikur
