Johor: Two youths were charged in the Magistrate's Court here Thursday with the murder of a loan shark at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi. No plea was recorded from Gan Jia Li, 19, and Yip Kah Hou, 22, who were charged separately under Section 302 for murder.

They were accused of causing the death of a 44-year-old man, Tan Aik Chai, at the petrol station along Jalan Sri Pelangi at 7.30pm, Dec 17, 2017, with five suspects still at large.

Gan was clad in a grey T-shirt and Yip in a green T-shirt. Both nodded their heads to show that they understood the charge.

Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali set Feb 13 for case management.

Yip is represented by lawyer Chuah Shyue Chien, while Gan is unrepresented.

DPP Muhamad Syafiq Mohd Ghazali is prosecuting the case. In the grisly murder, the victim was seen in a video being dragged and stabbed by several suspects before he was run over twice by a white BMW.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman CID Director, Commissioner Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, said several suspects linked to the murder have gone into hiding in Thailand.

He said efforts were underway to track down and detain the fugitives via the assistance of the Royal Thai Police.

This came after police obtained their records of slipping into Thailand and one of them is the main suspect in the murder.
