Kota Kinabalu: SEA Games gold medallist Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian is hoping to skip the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran on Feb 1-3 and instead concentrate on the Pre-Asian Games meet in Palembang, Indonesia on Feb 11-15.The 29-year-old said on Monday after his training session at the Likas Stadium here that he feels like withdrawing from the indoor meet and has written to the Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF) on his intention.

"My main target this year is the Indonesia Asian Games in August and obviously the Pre-Games meet is more appropriate for me, so I am hoping I can skip the Asian Championship which is an indoor 60m hurdles event.

"I have requested MAF to withdraw my name from the list. At the moment I am waiting for their reply and if it is unsuccessful then I will take part nonetheless.

"I have been training well and I am all ready to begin my competition in the new year," he said.

Rayzam who has not competed since winning the 110m hurdles gold medal at the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in August will have a hectic schedule after this.

He will depart for Australia with the national squad in March in preparation for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games to be held in April followed by the Asian Grand Prix series and Germany training cum competition stint.

"I will follow the national team to Australia for one month in March in preparation for the Commonwealth Games.

I am not setting a high target and the competition is more like a Asian Games warm-up for me which I hope to run below 13.8s.

"Then in May I would like to compete in the Asian Grand Prix series which will be held over three legs but the host countries are not known yet.

"After that I will go to Germany until July to train as well as taking part in competition until the Asian Games." - GL Oh
