Labourer gets 15 years, 4 strokes for raping step-daughter, 14

Alor Setar: A contract labourer who raped his 14-year-old step-daughter was sentenced to 15 years' jail and four strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here Monday.Judge Najwa Che Mat handed down the sentence on Mat Zahir Shariff, 43 who pleaded guilty to the charge."What you did is heinous. You opt to do it to your step-daughter whereas you are married to her mother," said Najwa before handing down the sentence.

Mat Zahir, who has three children, was charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Bukit Belah, Mukim Lada, Pokok Sena at 11 pm in September 2017.He was charged under Section 376B (1) of the Penal Code which provides an imprisonment for up to 10 years and whipping, if found guilty.Deputy public prosecutor Rehab Abdul Shukur prosecuted.Meanwhile in KUALA LUMPUR, a lorry attendant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of committing armed gang-robbery at a house belonging to a supervisor of a transport company in October last year.

A.Franciss Dass, 25, with another person still at large, was charged with committing robbery when armed with a machete at a house belonging to Tan Beng Kwee, 36, and had robbed him of a wallet containing personal documents, such as bank cards and driving licence, as well as RM1,200, and two cars, comprising a Ford Ranger and a Perodua Kembara.They were alleged to have committed the offence at a house in Bandar Manjalara, Kepong here at 4.30 pm on Oct 9, 2017.
