Rela members lodge report against Shafie over 'insulting' statement
Published on: Wednesday, January 17, 2018

Tawau: A team of 83 Rela (People's Volunteer Corps) members had lodged a police report against Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and urged him to apologise for the statement which they considered and insult.

Kalabakan Rela Communications Chief, Saad Razak, 56, said they felt offended with Shafie's statement which questioned Rela's capability, specifically in the handling of weapons, as well as saying that Rela members who assisted in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) will be voting via post.

"I deny his statement because Rela members will not be voting via post as the involved members (assisting in the Esszone) are locals of the area.

"I also deny his statement on the capability of Rela members' in handling weapons as we were given basic training and courses," he said.

Saad said this when lodging the report with Rela members at district police headquarters (IPD) Tawau, with members holding signs saying "Don't insult Rela, Rela is 4 the country", "Take back the statement insulting Rela", "Rela is united in rejecting Shafie's statement" and "Do not challenge Rela's dignity".

Earlier, Saad said he had received a video through WhatsApp at 8am on Tuesday on Shafie's statement, which Saad considered to have insulted Rela.

He said Shafie had insulted them by saying: "Rela members do not know how to handle weapons, do not know how to shoot and did not learn how to use a bomb. All they know is if there's a 'kenduri', they will be monitoring traffic."

Apart from that, the Warisan leader had also said that Rela members who are involved in assisting Esszone will be voting via post. - Lagatah Toyos
