Kuala Lumpur: More Malaysians are venturing out to popular overseas destinations for this year's Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday, according to the Hotels.com search data.Bangkok replaces Melaka as the most popular CNY getaway destination for Malaysian travellers this year, amidst the backdrop of a stronger ringgit, which breached the 4.00 mark against the US dollar in January."The upcoming long Chinese New Year weekend presents a perfect opportunity for Malaysians to go on vacations with their families and loved ones, and we have observed a significant surge in travellers' interest for overseas regional destinations for the period this year.ADVERTISEMENT "Destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore and Tokyo are among this year's top hits, showing a significant ranking increase over last year's result," Hotels.com Regional Director for Greater China, Southeast Asia & India Jessica Chuang said in a statement.Bangkok, which was the sixth most popular CNY destination last year, is this year's most popular destination, while Singapore moved up six places to join the top 10.Both cities are known as top shopping destinations in the region, from the iconic Orchard Road shopping belt in Singapore to the ultra-luxurious Siam Paragon in Bangkok, complete with its own Porsche and Jaguar showrooms.Hatyai, which has recently received a boost in air connectivity after the introduction of additional direct flights connecting the popular border city with Kuala Lumpur, went up two places to number six.ADVERTISEMENT Ranked at number 12 this year, Tokyo is experiencing a strong surge of interest by Malaysian travellers, Chuang said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
