Adnan owes Christians an apology, says Star

Kota Kinabalu: State opposition party Star said Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor should have been grateful to church leaders and Christians in the country for praying for state and national leaders every week during church service.Its Information Chief Jeffrey Kumin insisted that Adnan owes all Christians an apology for his statement on Sunday when he reportedly told them not to use the church to spread fake news and lies that put the Federal Government in bad light.Adnan, however, has clarified that his advice was intended for all religious places of worship.ADVERTISEMENT Jeffrey, who is also a pastor, insisted that the Minister admit his mistake and issue an apology."Just admit it and openly apologise to all church leaders and Christians who have been offended and angered by such baseless claim," he said in a statement.He stressed that sermons delivered during church services or religious talks have never touched on political issues, what more spreading fake news about government leaders.On the contrary, he said church leaders and Christians in Malaysia always pray for the leaders as well as for peace and stability in the state and country.ADVERTISEMENT "He should have been be grateful," said Jeffrey.He added that lately churches have been praying for a fair and clean 14th general election and also for elected representatives to be individuals who have integrity and ability to lead.

Council of Churches Malaysia (CCM) had also condemned Tengku Adnan for insulting Christians. He equally received heavy criticisms from many Malaysians on social media, including non-Christians.
