Kuala Lumpur: The National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) has signed memorandum of understanding (MoUs) with five associations in an effort to rope in more local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to adopt e-Commerce.The five associations are the Malaysia Retail Chain Association, Malaysia Wholesalers Association, Malaysia Digital Chamber of Commerce, Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents and the SME Association of Malaysia.

The MoUs would see PIKOM assist members from these five associations to partner with PIKOM technology enabler member companies such as payment gateway providers, logistics providers and e-commerce platform providers.

"This way, PIKOM will act as the platform to link local SMEs to over 100 of our technology enabler members via our new PIKOM eCommerce Fair," said PIKOM Chairman and E-Commerce Malaysia Chapter Chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah in a statement Monday.

The monthly PIKOM eCommerce Fair was expected to kick off in the first half of this year.

The signing of the five MoUs would also help generate greater local and foreign consumer demand for the associations' e-Commerce merchant members through the annual online sales festival, #MYCYBERSALE.

As of now, PIKOM hoped to see more merchants participate in #MYCYBERSALE 2018 scheduled for Sept 3 to 7, 2018.

Last year, #MYCYBERSALE 2017's gross merchandise value jumped 47.4 per cent to RM311 million compared with 2016's RM211 million.

Sales to international buyers skyrocketed 254 per cent to RM39 million in 2017 from RM11 million recorded in the previous year. – Bernama
