Offensive Facebook posting: Perak man pleads not guilty

Kota Kinabalu: A 27-year-old self-employed from Perak was charged with posting an offensive statement and pictures in Facebook with the intention to hurt someone's feelings.Seevashankar Vickneswaran Tamalsilvan pleaded not guilty before Sessions Court Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad to the charge against him on Wednesday.He allegedly committed offence at 11.53am on Aug 16, 2017 at Bandar Baru Tambun, in Ipoh, Perak.ADVERTISEMENT Seevashankar was charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588) and punishable under Section 233(3) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of up to a year or a fine of up to RM50,000, or both, on conviction.Ainul set March 26 this year for case management and Aug 1-2 for trial.Seevashankar was released on a bail of RM5,000 in a local surety and ordered to report to Tambun police station once a month.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
