Jailed for snatching knapsack

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old mechanic was jailed 24 months for snatching a man's knapsack.Mohd Nizar Musa admitted before Magistrate Afiq Agoes to stealing one Mohd Faiz Eddy Hariyanto's knapsack at 7.02pm on Feb 16 in front of 100% Superstore in Putatan.

According to the facts of the case, Faiz was about to park his motorcycle when an unidentified man approached and grabbed the knapsack from his motorcycle basket.

The man, later identified as Mohd Nizar, ran away but Faiz managed to catch him and handed him to police.

Mohd Nizar had committed an offence under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years on conviction.

In another case, an unemployed was handed 11 months' jail for trespassing into a house at Sepanggar, Manggatal.

Mohd Hafiz Jamir, 29, pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a house in Taman Indah Permai at 4am on Feb 16.

He was jointly charged with another accused, Ahmad Kamalludin Nolkin, 23, who pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 448 of the Penal Code.

Ahmad, a receptionist, who was represented by counsel Farazwin Haxdy, was offered bail at RM2,000 in two sureties pending mention of his case on March 7.

The facts of the case stated that a neighbour contacted the police after seeing two men at the compound of the house under renovation and not occupied yet.

Police later came and apprehended the two men.
