Tawau: The people's carnival should be extended to 12 months to enable the people living in rural areas buy essentials at lower prices compared to market prices.Kalabakan Umno Division Chief Datuk Seri Ghapur Salleh said the response to the carnival was very good and proposed to extend it to other areas within the Kalabakan zone.

"The carnival will be held all over Sabah by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) every six months.

"We are grateful to KPDNKK for holding the carnival every six months, but I hope it can be extended to 12 months because of its significant benefit especially to the rural people," he said during the Kalabakan Parliamentary Carnival Sales at Dewan Datuk Seri Najib, here, Wednesday.

Ghapur, who is also Kalabakan Member of Parliament, said the carnival offers cheaper daily necessities which helps to reduce the cost of living.

He also urged the people to report to KPDNKK if there were any items being sold at unreasonable prices.

"Consumers should complain to the KPDNKK for proper action as the prices of goods in the market can be optimised as well as not allowing the traders to take advantage of earning bigger profits," he said. - Lagatah Toyos
