Kota Kinabalu: The State Under-21 squad are looking for a winning start to their President Cup campaign against Kedah at the Stadium Tuanku Abd Halim today (Thursday) starting at 4.45pm.Team manager Yassin Aman is confident his players will give their best to deliver the goods after watching them train at the Likas Synthetic pitch on Tuesday.

"Our target is to get a win in every match we play, and we know Kedah are a very strong team, they have the same players that won the Youth Cup (Under-19) title last season, but that doesn't mean that we cannot beat them.

"Our players have been together for the last two seasons. They know the Kedah players well.

They have also defeated them away in 2016 at the Youth Cup competition, so I am quite confident they will do well on Thursday," he said.

The team will play their next two matches away as well against Pahang (February 26) and Misc-Mifa (March 1).

"We will be away for the next 12 days, playing three away games starting with Kedah followed by Pahang and Misc-Mifa.

"I understand it will be very tough for the players but I do hope they can win at least seven points on the road.

Anything more will be a bonus to the team as we want to have a good start this season."

The team are also boosted with five of their top players released by the senior squad to join the other 18 on the list.

"We will have a total of 23 players in this trip and we also have the five players from the senior squad to play for us. It is definitely a boost for the team," he added.

The five – Hamran Peter, Stanley Sulong, Evan Wensley, Aidil Safee and Sakri Masri will be in the team starting line-up today.

Coach Johnny Dominicus is likely to put Sakri in goal and the fours defenders are Evan, Ranilson Batuil, Zaki Sapri and Kelvin Pengiran.

Aidil will be the main man in midfield with Syukri Baharun supported by Stanley and Mohd Hizaz Lokman on the flanks while Hamran and Arius Dius Jais will lead the attack. - GL Oh
