Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Friday gave two worst case scenarios in the opposition leadership line-up that will definitely cripple the country if they were able to take over the reins of the government. The Prime Minister said he could envision the opposition leaders being so busy fighting for the Prime Minister's post for the first two years after the general election.

"We can almost see that if the opposition wins the election, they will remain busy fighting for the post of Prime Minister for two or three years before they can begin their work to serve the people," he said in his recent blog post on NajibRazak.com, titled "Opposition Leadership Will Cripple the Country".

Instead, Najib said if the people continue giving their mandate to the Barisan Nasional (BN), the party would be able to start rendering their services to the people immediately after the election as it already had a strong and reliable leadership.

He said after years of disputes, the opposition pact finally decided to name Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and PKR President Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail as its Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister candidates, respectively.

However, he said the opposition's nomination this time around had actually shown how fragile their top leadership would be if they managed to form the government. This is because Dr Mahathir will only hold the post of Prime Minister temporarily as the post will be given to PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim once he is released from jail, he said.

Najib said the first worst-case scenario would be when Dr Mahathir refuses to make way for Anwar as it was no secret that the former premier had described every other leader as "not right".

"To quote his (Dr Mahathir) words in 2016, there is no way he would allow a morally unfit leader to become a Prime Minister."

"In fact, he also said Anwar is too old to lead the country and the PKR will definitely protest if Tun (Dr Mahathir) chose to retain absolute power," the Prime Minister said.

The second scenario, Najib said:

"Even if Tun Dr Mahathir chooses to make a u-turn and give the post to Anwar, the post of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister will be held by husband and wife.

"If this happens, it will be the most critical level of nepotism ever witnessed in the country and for sure the people will stage a protest against the leadership," he added.
