'No protection for athletes involved in match fixing'

Kuala Lumpur: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin on Friday stressed that the Ministry would not protect any individual including national athletes involved in match fixing.He said athletes who were tainted by immoral scandals could tarnish the good name of the country as one of the major sports powers in Southeast Asia, and that they should face disciplinary action if found guilty."If they have involved in match fixing, then they must face (the music) and defend themselves on their own.

"If found guilty, it is a criminal offence. It was reported that two professional badminton players were being investigated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for their alleged involvement in match fixing scandal.Based on the report, the duo, who were not under the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), were being probed for allegedly attempting to bribe some foreign players by persuading them to be involved in the match fixing. – Bernama
