Hamran out of Perlis clash
Published on: Thursday, March 08, 2018

Kota Kinabalu: Senior team player Hamran Peter will not be featured in the State Under-21 squad's Group A match against Perlis at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra, Kangar this afternoon (Thursday).

The striker is down with an injury and did not travel with the team on Wednesday and his place will be taken by Fadzly Gusmia, said head coach Johnny Dominicus.

"The absence of Hamran obviously will be felt by the team but it will not affect the team's spirit.

To me it is just one player short for selection only.

"Fedrick (Fadzly Gusmia) who replaced Hamran during the match against Misc-Mifa will take over his spot.

"He did very well when coming on and managed to score in our 2-0 victory. Actually he is our top choice if the seniors are not available," said Johnny on Wednesday.

According to him, the other four senior players namely Mohd Sakri Masri, Mohd Aidil Safee, Evan Wensley Wenceslaus and Stanley Sulong will start the match.

"We are now focusing one match at a time. The wins in our first three matches was beyond our expectation as we only targeted seven points at the start.

"Our current position at the top will also draw the attention of all other teams who will try their very best to beat us, but we are ready.'

"I hope my players will stay focused tomorrow and maintain their winning streak and beat Perlis to widen the gap at the top."

The match today will likely see Sakri in goal and the fours defenders are Evan, Ranilson Batuil, Zaki Sapri and Kelvin Pengiran. Aidil will be the main man in midfield with Syukri Baharun supported by Stanley and Mohd Hizaz Lokman on the flanks while Fredrick and Arius Dius Jais will lead the attack.

Sabah's next match is at home against ATM here at the Likas Stadium on March 21. - GL Oh
