Kota Kinabalu: A 16-year-old girl's hope to land a job turned sour after she was believed to have been repeatedly raped by six men behind a grocery store in Yue Min industrial area, Penampang, on March 1.

Penampang Police Chief Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said early investigations showed the victim had left her house in the area in search of a job on that day.

He said the victim was brought to the back of a grocery store by two men at 8pm after her job search and four other men were also in the area drinking alcohol.

It was learnt that the victim knew all six men involved. "The victim claimed that after drinking several glasses, she felt dizzy and in a state of half-consciousness.

"She only woke up around 11pm when she felt her private part hurting. Her underwear, zipper and buttons were also open at the time," he said. Due to trauma, the victim had only lodged a police report at 2.15pm the following day.

"Following the incident, police successfully detained the six men involved in the incident.

They were in their 20s," he added.
