Kuala Lumpur: Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Bhd (PUNB) approved RM48 million to fund 352 entrepreneurs between January-February this year, from the RM200 million it had allocated in 2018.Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Azhar Ahmad said the loans were disbursed to petrol station and child education entrepreneurs, and also used to fund healthcare services such as clinics, pharmacies and hospitals.

"Since its establishment in 1991, PUNB has disbursed RM2.6 billion in loans to more than 9,000 entrepreneurs, and there are currently 6,358 active entrepreneurs, 36 per cent of whom are women.

"This is a proud achievement as it is more than the government's target of 30 per cent," he told reporters after PUNB's corruption-free pledge (IBR) signing ceremony here, Monday.

Azhar said PUNB has been actively encouraging entrepreneurs, especially Bumiputeras, to participate in the automotive and hardware industry, but said the response had been slow.

Meanwhile, PUNB Chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam said the IBR was part of the corporation's effort to enhance integrity, accountability and implement an excellent work culture within the organisation. –Bernama
