Another Ranau school up in smoke
Published on: Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Ranau: Another primary school here went up in smoke, Tuesday, barely a week after the teachers' quarters of a primary school were razed.

The 4pm fire at SK Nunuk Ragang destroyed a row of wooden building housing administration offices and Primary One classrooms.

Ranau Chief Education Officer Siti Hamne Hashim said it was fortunate that no one was injured in the incident.

"This must be a valuable lesson for everyone in the education sector as well as others to prioritise on safety against hazards, such as what happened today and last Wednesday.

"My advice to all concerned is that they must check and double-check on the situation at their schools and ensure everything is in order.

"If suspicious or anything is amiss, report it to the Fire and Rescue and Education departments as well as other related agencies.

"This is important so that prompt decision can be taken to avoid any untoward incidents such as fire," she said.

As at press time, Ranau Fire and Rescue Department Chief Jimmy Lagung said his team was still at the location doing their best to keep the situation under control, adding that all the details about the incident are under investigation. - Clarence George Dol
