Beaufort: The efforts of Umno Wanita to fight for 30pc women candidates have inspired Beaufort MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun to continue defending the seat in the 14th General Election (GE-14) if given the chance.Speaking as a Barisan Nasional (BN) representative, she said her party is always ready to ensure that it is still administering the country after GE14.

"We as the people's representatives and party supporters are ready to defend our respective areas to ensure that this government who have been proven to defend the people's wellbeing continue to be in power.

"However, at the end of the day it is up to our top leadership to determine (on the question of candidateship)," she said this when opening the 'Majlis Bersama Pemimpin dan Jasa Mu Dikenang' programme at Hotel Gem.

Azizah, who is also the Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister, said she was optimistic that State and Federal government staff will continue to support BN.

She said the confidence was based on their solid support to ensure the government's development agenda continues to succeed for the benefit of the people.

"They (government staff) know that it is their responsibility to carry out government policies and agenda so that the people can enjoy the benefits.

"Since the success of a policy or plan depends on government officers, I am sure that the majority of them want to ensure what is best for the people.

"Sabah will also continue to be under BN and contribute as the fixed deposit as a whole," she said, adding that there is no excuse for the people to change the existing government as they had proven that they are the best party to defend the fate of the people.

Meanwhile, Lumadan Assemblyman Datuk Kamarlin Ombi, who was present, said he appreciates the commitment and support of government staff in realising the government's development agenda to be carried out perfectly.

He said the continuous effort by the government, especially under the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, is not only focused on the aspect of infrastructure but also in the advancement of human capital.

"SPM and STPM results of schools in Beaufort last year, recording 100 per cent passes which proved the excellence of government staff," he said.

Also present were Umno Beaufort Division chief Datuk Isnin Aliasnih and Beaufort District Officer Shaid Othman. - Iskandar Dzulkifli
