City lights off to mark Earth Hour tomorrow

Kota Kinabalu: Streetlights in the city will be switched off for an hour from 8.30pm tomorrow (Saturday), in conjunction with the Earth Hour 2018 celebration.The streetlights are those along the Likas Bay road-Menara Tun Mustapha bridge-Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) roundabout, Jalan Tun Razak-Karamunsing flyover and Jalan Mat Salleh-Tanjung Aru first beach. Apart from that, streetlights in the Segama, Segama Waterfront and Sinsuran area will also be switched off, as well as lights of all buildings owned by City Hall.

City dwellers are also urged to switch off the lights and electrical appliances in their premises for an hour, to raise public awareness on the importance of tackling global warming.The public are also invited to attend the Earth Hour 2018 celebration at City Hall grounds. Various activities have been lined up such as the "Earth Hour Bike Ride 2018", a symbolic ceremony to light more than 60 logo candles, sale and exhibitions of eco-friendly products as well as a "Fashion Swap."It is organised by City Hall in collaboration with Environmental Action Committee Kota Kinabalu (EAC KK), World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Malaysia and Hyatt Regency Kinabalu, with the support of other agencies such as the Health Department, Environment Protection Department and police.
