Man killed, another injured in collision

Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old father of two was killed when the Toyota Vios he was driving collided with a Nissan Urvan along Jalan Tuaran Bypass, here, Friday.It was learnt that Yong Yuk Khen was heading from Lintas to his home when it collided with the Urvan travelling against the flow of traffic, according to witnesses.City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the 44-year-old Urvan driver was carrying two passengers and heading from Manggatal to Kota Kinabalu.

He said when the Urvan reached near a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet, the Vios driver coming from the opposite direction rammed into the van's front side."The Vios driver was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Hospital Likas, while the Urvan driver, who suffered a broken right thighbone, was sent to Hospital Queen Elizabeth. The two female Urvan passengers escaped unscathed," he said, Friday.The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Chandra advised road users to be more prudent and always careful when driving.The Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at 12.48am and rushed a team of six firemen with two fire engines, led by operations officer Mohd Zulfadli Usman, to the scene some 5km away.

According to Mohd Zulfadli, the deceased was handed over to police and the Urvan driver, identified as Mohd Noranizam Ading Abdullah, was sent to the hospital by an ambulance.Meanwhile, in another accident, a 38-year-old Proton Wira Aeroback driver was seriously injured in a collision with a lorry at Kg Poring, in Manggatal, Friday.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
