Additional UTK and VAT 69 Commandos under study

Melaka: The requests to increase the personnel and expand the Special Actions Unit (UTK) and VAT 69 Commandos of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are now being studied, says the Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.He said the process was being carried out by the Finance Department and the Public Service Department and would be announced soon. "There will be additional personnel (for UTK and VAT 69 Commando) as requested by PDRM as announced yesterday," he told reporters after opening the Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa Customs Museum here Monday.

The event was also attended by the Customs Department (JKDM) director-general Datuk Seri T. Subromaniam and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Roslan Ibrahim.Yesterday, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun announced the call for more personnel for UTK and VAT 69 Commando to fight crime as well as threats in the country.Meanwhile, Subromaniam said the museum which was known as Customs Museum was opened in 2006 and was now being rebranded as Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa Customs Museum. He said the museum which was based on the British architecture was built as a Customs warehouse to store trading goods such as ceramic, rice, flour, sugar and spices from China, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines.
