600 Sabah schools as polling centres

Kota Kinabalu: More than 600 schools in the State have been chosen as polling centres for the 14th General Election (GE14) on May 9, said State Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul."We have instructed all District Education Offices and selected schools to make the necessary preparations," she said after the State Education Department's Innovation Week (Minos) closing ceremony at Wisma Pendidikan, here, Thursday."All schools in the State will also observe the 'special occasion holiday' on May 9 as announced by Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid recently."ADVERTISEMENT Mahdzir also said 6,941 public schools nationwide would be used as polling stations.He was also reported as saying that schools with two-session systems which have been selected as polling centres are required to postpone their afternoon session on May 8 to allow preparations by the Election Commission (EC).In another report, Education Director-General Datuk Dr Amin Senin was quoted as saying that affected schools must allow the EC to carry out its duties unencumbered.He also reminded all schools chosen as polling centres to give their full cooperation to the EC to conduct the GE14.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, Maimunah urged educators in the State to continue to explore new ideas and produce innovation based on creative thinking as well as work hard towards improving the education services delivery quality."Any activity or duty must be implemented in line with the aspiration of Education Director-General Datuk Dr Amin Senin which has set a micro target of realising the two core perspectives of the Malaysian Education Blueprint (MEB) 2013-2025 – school and student quality.

"As such, the culturalisation of creativity and innovation in administration, academic management, co-curricular or student's personality in all levels can boost the realisation of the two main targets."Nevertheless, she reminded educators not to be complacent with the existing achievements as obtaining quality is a never-ending task."We have to work hard to enhance creativity and innovation to improve the existing achievement."This effort needs the commitment of all quarters to ensure a sustainable quality."Something which is of good quality today may not be considered the same in future."It needs a continuous improvement in tandem with the change of environment and the expectation of clients and stakeholders who will always demand for quality," she said.On the department's Innovation Week, she said, apart from giving recognitions, the programme also acts as a platform to share best practices in an effort to enhance high-achievement work spirit among educators through the New Horizon Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) competition.Some 23 KIK teams were formed where each team submitted a project, but only eight teams were qualified to the finals.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

The winner for the KIK competition was the Active 7 team from Sandakan Education Office.During the event, Tawau Education Office also received the most excellent District Education Office in the State award by obtaining a five-star rating with a percentage of 96.1.
