Kuala Lumpur: Outgoing Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president, Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Ja'afar has advised the incoming OCM leadership after the General Assembly in May 5, to maintain the most important element in achieving success – teamwork.Tunku Imran said that element (teamwork) should be set as a culture if the new leadership wanted to ensure that every agenda and plan could be implemented properly. He said teamwork would also give an impact on efforts to uplift the national sports arena in the eyes of the world.

"I hope the incoming leaders understand that there are lots of personal sacrifices to be made when you get into these positions. You are not working for yourself but you are really working for the sports and the athletes.

"My advice is teamwork. I think it is important for the new leaders who want to produce positive results, whether in performances on the field or in educational programmes and others like what OCM does," he said after chairing the OCM Executive Board meeting at Wisma OCM here, Tuesday.

In a separate development, Tunku Imran said he believed the national contingent to the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia would produce positive results. "I'm always optimistic and for me, as long as the athletes do their best, try their best, fight for their country and understand their responsibilities, I'm happy.

I'm optimistic and do not underestimate our athletes," he added.

Meanwhile, he informed the media that National Sports Council Director-General Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail would relinquish his role as deputy chef-de-mission to the 2018 Asian Games to focus on his role as the games' official. – Bernama
