Najib understood Sabah's needs: Musa
Ranau: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had no hesitation in topping up Sabah's request for RM800 million to repair dilapidated schools by another RM200 million to make it RM1 billion under the 2018 Budget.This was one of the biggest for the state apart from other allocations that are meant to benefit the people, said Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman.

"There has never been any Prime Minister or Finance Minister who approved this much for education development in Sabah and Sarawak. Under Najib, he understands the situation. We gained a lot under Najib's era.

So it is only right we continue to support his leadership," he said in his address during the state level teachers' day celebration Wednesday.

Also present at the event were, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment cum Sabah State Education EXCO, Datuk Masidi Manjun, Malaysian Education Director General, Datuk Dr Amin Bin Senin, Director of Sabah State Education Department, Datuk Hjh Maimunah Hj Suhaibul, Deputy Director of Sabah State Education Department, Datuk Dr Hj Mohd Kassim Hj Mohd Ibrahim, Sabah USDA President, Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, Ranau District Officer, Hj Faimin Kamin, Ranau Education Officer cum Organising Chairman, Siti Hamni Hashim, and others.

"Before this I had asked the education director how much was needed to resolve the issue on dilapidated schools and she told me RM800 million. That is not a small amount. I told this to the Prime Minister and he gave RM1 billion.

"This is a Prime Minister who has a big heart for the people as he was willing to give this big allocation for Sabah.

He listens to the needs of the people in Sabah and Sarawak," Musa said.

Maimunah said 120 dilapidated schools are now being upgraded or replaced with the Industrial Building System (IBS) through the first phase of the RM1 billion chanelled by the Federal government.

"Last year 32 schools were involved in the move to replace old dilapidated buildings and the number has increased this year because the government was concerned on the school infrastructure," she said.

In the ceremony Musa had also presented the state level Tokoh Guru award to former Tambunan education officer Kaipin Rosmin and Sinaran Institute chief executive officer Marie Yong Pik Hua.

He said success in the field of education today clearly demonstrates that all policies, programmes and initiatives implemented by the government are realistic and inclusive, while taking into account the interests of all, especially for the future generation.

"We believe that in order to drive the state's progress in line with the premier mainstream of national development, we need a lot of qualified and knowledgeable human capital and professionals as well as the best educational process," he said.

"Believe me, we are on the right track and best to drive the development of the state in various fields.

I believe that our progress and achievement is a result of our excellence in the field of education that has succeeded in producing many excellent human capital.

"In this context, teachers are role models' who are responsible for creating children's lives, thereby educating and leading the nation into a knowledgeable generation of future leaders.

"Therefore, I hope that teachers will continue to work excellently in the hope of parents, communities and nations. Excellent teachers and schools will certainly produce outstanding students and students," he said.
