BN clarifies legality of its logo

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) has refuted claims that the ruling coalition could not use its iconic white 'dacing' (scales) symbol in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14), because it contradicted the logo's description as embedded in the party's constitution.BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor clarified that the party's constitution had included a clause detailing the symbol and colour that would define its logo.He said Clause 16 of BN's constitution clearly defined the party's symbol as white scales with a 'nilakandi' blue as its background. He added this was based on the constitution that had been agreed and passed by the party's supreme council meeting in Nov 2010.

"Therefore, the issue of BN cannot use its white scales on nilakandi background does not arise," he said in a statement.Tengku Adnan said the issue need to be cleared as it had stirred anxiety among BN's grassroot members."Supporters of BN need to maintain their commitment and focus, as well as work hard to ensure a big victory for BN in this election," he said.Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) on Wednesday had claimed that the current BN symbol was not mentioned in its constitution, questioning the legality of the federal coalition to use the symbol for GE14.
