PAGOH: Pakatan Harapan will ensure that their candidates are not bankrupts or have any issues which will lead to their disqualification on technical grounds, its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed said."All our candidates will be clean and properly vetted.

"We will not allow walkovers similar to how Datuk Seri Azalina Othman (Said) won in the past," he said referring to the Pengerang MP who won uncontested twice in 2004 and 2008.

Addressing a Pakatan gathering on Thursday night, Dr Mahathir claimed that there were already attempts to check on the background of Pakatan candidates to find ways for them to be disqualified so that Barisan Nasional could earn a walkover.

"Even for me, I was notified that I had an old case of land leased for RM30,000 per year from Langkawi Development Authority.

"The amount I owe is about RM280,000 now. Of course I will settle it to avoid it being used to disqualify me," he said.

Dr Mahathir also alleged that there were also attempts to "buy over" Pakatan candidates.

"Some took the money and donated it to the party for campaign purposes as they are still solidly with Pakatan," he claimed.

At the event, Dr Mahathir also announced Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the Pagoh parliamentary candidate.

Muhyiddin will be defending the Pagoh seat for the eighth time in GE14. He will also be contesting in the Gambir state seat.

The party is contesting 10 parliamentary seats and 18 state seats in Johor.
