Kota Kinabalu: Keningau will host the State-level Pesta Kaamatan 2018, to be officiated by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin, on May 1. Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan said the launching is not only to celebrate the festival but also to promote the district as an attractive tourist destination.

"Tourism is one of the State's most important sectors that drive its economy.

Hence, the interior needs an injection of efforts to improve the tourism sector and stimulate the economy of people in the interior.

"We in the interior do not want to be left out in the State's development effort.

The launching is also in conjunction with Visit Keningau Year 2018," he said.

Pairin, who is the State-level Pesta Kaamatan Organising Committee Chairman, said this after a courtesy call on Tun Juhar at the Istana Negeri, here, Monday.

He hoped the highlighting of cultural arts and activities during the celebration will attract more visitors from within and outside the country.

Also present was Toh Puan Norlidah R.M. Jasni.
