Tawau: Tanjong Batu Assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat said she accepts the "frog" label that has been given to the six Barisan Nasional elected representatives from Upko and Umno who crossed over to Warisan Sabah soon after the GE14 election results that denied incumbent Tan Sri Musa Aman the Chief Ministership, and insults hurled at her."As the saying goes 'if you don't want to be washed away by the waves, don't build your house by the sea', I think it is normal, anyone can speak their mind," she said. "That's their right … we cannot stop them. I accept whatever is being said about me. ADVERTISEMENT Everything will be back to normal once the people know what the real situation is, that we sacrificed for them and most important is the benefit goes to them," she said. She was responding to questions by the media upon arrival at her residence here, Tuesday. She said being an Umno member in 1992 was nostalgic for her and when Usno was dissolved and replaced by Umno, it was also an unexpected turn of events. "It was hard for me to leave Usno. We accepted Umno and we made the decision to join Umno … in this struggle we have to give in because we have brought so much development. But in the event where the people can no longer accept the BN's struggle, we have to comply with the people's choice," she said. ADVERTISEMENT Hamisa said it was not easy to leave BN, but was willing to make the decision to cross over to Parti Warisan Sabah, looking at the situation of rejection of the people against BN in the election. "If our leaders leave, leaders are only one person but the people, many are waiting for us.

I made the decision for the people. Not to chase after position. "In fact, I have spoken to Parti Warisan Sabah President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal that my crossing over is unconditional."No demand (request) for any position. We accept only if given, but this (cross over) is enough for the sake of the people. We want to continue the people's agenda which remains unfinished and needs to be resolved," she said. Hamisa also denied claims that she and Sebatik Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Muis Picho opted out of BN due to disappointment at not being appointed to the cabinet, adding it was because they had no confidence in the cabinet line-up formed by Musa at that time. She said she felt the possibility of forming of cabinet by Musa might not take place because of the "lack of cooperation" from those in the Istana Negeri during the swearing in of Chief Minister at 11pm on May 10. "It was not because of not being appointed but rather lack of confidence … even Datuk Bolkiah Ismail and Datuk Masiung Banah who have been appointed as full ministers chose not to stick around. They also opted out," she added. She described the action taken by her and Abdul Muis was 100 percent lightweight steps to Warisan because it was difficult for a people's representative to solve the people's problems and to defend them with only funds from their YB allowance. - Lagatah Toyos
