TNB to invest in digitisation, automation

Kuala Lumpur: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) will continue to invest in digitisation and automation, while improving performance and reliability.President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Ir Azman Mohd said of the RM18.8 billion capital investment in the transmission and distribution grid, secured under the second regulatory period of 2018 to 2020, RM2.7 billion would be invested into "Grid of the Future" technologies."These include the scheduled deployment of 340,000 smart meters in Melaka and subsequent deployment of an additional 1.2 million meters in the Klang Valley," he told a press conference after the electricity utility company's annual general meeting on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Chief Financial Officer, Datuk Fazlur Rahman Zainuddin said the reserve generation margin remained sustainable at around 30 per cent."There will be new plants coming up. The Jimah East power plant is to be commissioned in 2019," he added. It was reported that the Jimah East power plant will generate 2,000 MW of electricity.Meanwhile, Chairman, Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the electricity tariff would remain intact until June 2018.

"The current tariff is based on the Imbalance Cost Pass Through (ICPT) from January to June 2018. The ICPT formula remains until June and a further decision made after that,' he added.

He said TNB as a government-linked company follows the policy of the government of the day and of what is good for the shareholders and the country."We will be professional in what we do. We are optimistic that the second regulatory period from 2018 to 2020 will remain supportive of TNB's fundamentals, ensuring the continued delivery of value for the company, our shareholders and all other stakeholders," Moggie added.
