Online raya sales to peak: Shopback

Kuala Lumpur: Online Cashback platform ShopBack, which partners more than 500 online shops in Malaysia, expects Hari Raya sales to peak in the first week of June in view of the zero per cent GST implementation on June 1.ShopBack Malaysia country General Manager Alvin Gill said the platform's partners were preparing for early June promotions as that would likely be the week when consumers rush to make their Raya preparations."For example, Lazada is planning for a Mega Sale from June 1-4 with up to 11 per cent cashback for ShopBack users. Around 40 partners are joining our Raya campaign and we are looking to have at least 100 per cent growth this year," he said in a statement on Monday.

Online partners joining Shopback's Raya campaign include Traveloka, 11street, foodpanda, FashionValet, Booking.com, Senheng, Hermo, Expedia, Sephora, ASOS, JD sports and PappaDelivery.Alvin said as expected, there was a 25 per cent drop in sales during week of the 14th General Election (GE14). As people resumed working and with the start of Ramadan, the number of online sales began to recover to previous levels. According to ShopBack data, the number of sales powered by ShopBack during Ramadan 2017 grew 100 per cent compared with 2016 sales and the online platform was confident of achieving results beyond this number in 2018 as market sentiment looked very positive after GE14.
