Man fined RM1,800 for giving fake information to police

Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man was fined RM1,800 or three months' jail for giving fake information to police.Magistrate Afiq Agoes handed the sentence to Join Ongikal, who admitted to giving fake information to Inspector Saiful Hairuzi Zainuddin, 32.Join committed the offence at 7.47pm on March 4 this year at the Penampang police station.ADVERTISEMENT The offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.The court heard that Join had given fake information to the police by claiming that his auntie was taken away by three men who came to collect debts.In another court, four people were fined for drink-driving.Liaw Chian Lii, 32, Chin Pin Cheng, 32, Soh Kuan Ming, 24, and Alan Lo Vui Kiong, 27, admitted before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to the charge against them respectively.
