Sandakan: A 19-year-old Filipino was freed by the Sessions Court here from a charge of prostitution-related activity involving three teenage girls.

Sessions Court Judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad on Tuesday discharged and acquitted Nasri Kusman Abdullah from the charge without his defence being called.

The court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against Nasri.

Nasri, a Filipino with a valid passport, is accused of acting as an intermediary on behalf of another to show that he is controlling the prostitution of three girls aged 14, 16 and 17, at 4pm on April 10, 2017 at a hotel here.

The charge under Section 372(1)(f) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 15 years or with whipping and liability of a fine on conviction.

The prosecution had called nine witnesses throughout the trial.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Faisal Md Noor prosecuted while Nasri was represented by counsel Mohd Zairi Zainal Abidin.
