Putra Jaya: A total of 458 additional flights involving 140,264 seats and 26 routes will be provided for Malaysians to fly home in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) had approved three airlines – namely Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Malindo Air – to offer the additional flights on selected routes.

"Prior to this, we have heard a number of grouses at the Parliament, especially those from Sabah and Sarawak, that the flight tickets were expensive during festive seasons. As such, Mavcom have added these flights at the request of the airline companies.

"We hope that the fares would be reduced and become more affordable with the additional flights," he told a press conference at his ministry here.

Among the routes were Kuala Lumpur-Kuching, Miri, Sibu, Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan, Tawau, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Alor Star and Langkawi.

Meanwhile, Loke said Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) would also increase its Electric Train Services (ETS) by six trips daily, involving an additional of 19,800 seats.

He said the additional trains were for travel dates from June 12 to 14 and June 17 to 24.
