40 children attend SGCC Open day

Kota Kinabalu: 40 children as young as 4-year-old attended the Sabah Golf and Country Club (SGCC) Junior Golf Open Day held at the club house on June 9.The main aim of the event was to open up and accept juniors from SGCC reciprocal clubs in Sabah and Labuan to join their junior development programme in an effort to assist the state in the development of the sport.

The open day also encouraged networking between players, parents, coaches as well as members of programme committee.

Apart from registration and briefings for new members to sign up, a three-hole and six-hole competition were also held.

Club President Shiak Vui Ming who gave away the prizes said since the programme was first introduced in 2016, four of their players players David Mills, Angelina Hwong, Benedict Wong and Rachel Wong , all aged 12 and below have represented the state in recent MSSM tournament in Kedah , March this year.

He invited all reciprocal clubs in Sabah and Labuan to join the programme and those who need further information can contact their sports and recreation department at 088-247533. – GL Oh
