FCK United clinches Kaamatan Superveteran Challenge Football

Kota Kinabalu: FCK United clinched the Kaamatan Superveteran Challenge Football Tournament title after beating Tuaui 2-0 in the final held the Penampang Stadium.Yap Teck Kong was the toast for the champion as his two goals in each half was good enough to upset the favourite despite being dominated by the opponents throughout the match.His first goal came in the 15th minutes courtesy of a defensive lapse by Tuaui player.

However, his team had to withstand the continuous onslaught by Tuaui players after taking the lead and they also had their goalkeeper to thank for as he denied Tuaui from getting an equaliser with some good goalkeeping.With time running out, Tuaui went for broke and left only one man in defence which backfired on them as Yap netted the winner from a quick counter attack late in the game.Earlier in the semi final, FCK United beat Kapayan Supervet in a penalty shootout in the Semifinal while Tuaui beat TVFC (Tenghilan) 2-0 in the other semi final. Eight teams took part in the invitation tournament organised by the Penampang Unity Football Club held in conjunction with the Kaamatan Festival.

They were invited two groups with SSS, Kobusak, FCK UTD ,Tuaui in group A and PPP. TVFC, Kapayan and RRB in group B.

Tournament organizer Edwin Jomiji said the tournament was part of their effort to raise money for their football academy and he thanked all the teams for their support.The tournament was organised by the club as part of their fund raising effort to support the Penampang Unity Football Club football academy. The prizes were presented by Club vice President Donald Masudal representing President IR Richard Jomiji. - GL Oh
