Puspakom agent jailed, fined over RM200 bribes

Labuan: A 35-year-old Puspakom agent was jailed for a day and fined RM10,000 or another three months for accepting a bribe of RM200 from a vehicle owner.Abdul Azri Mohd Karim pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manaf when his case was brought up for mention, Wednesday.In meting out the sentence, Abu Bakar said the sentence was to serve as a lesson to Azri and also a reminder not to repeat the offence.

He committed the offence inside a vehicle at the Puspakom compound in Batu Arang, Jalan Mustapha at 4.10pm on November 1.Azri accepted the money from Junaidi Narajik as an inducement to approve two four-wheel drive vehicles that failed its 'parking brake', an offence under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
