Kota Kinabalu: Rayzam Shah Wan Sofian ran a season-best 13.86 seconds to win bronze in the men's 110m hurdles at a European meet in Zeulenroda, Germany on June 9.He finished behind Italian Paolo Dal Molin (13.54s) and Erik Bainuwelt (13.57s) from Germany.

The time he set will be a major boost to his confidence as he is aiming for a time of 13.67s to be a finalist in the Asian Games to be held in Palembang, Indonesia in August.

The SEA Games gold medallist, who had a forgettable outing in the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April by finishing sixth with a time of 14.03s, in the qualifying round was happy with his running.

"It was a good run and I am very happy with the progress I made so far since I arrived in Leipzig, Germany almost a month ago. I will compete in a meet again next week and hopefully I can get a better time.

"There may be another competition before I return to Malaysia on July 1. My main focus now is to do well in the Asian Games and so far the training with my German coach Jay May here is going smoothly," he said.

The 30-year-old whose training cum competition stint in Germany was sponsored by Malaysia Athletics Federation and MSN had earlier in the year competed at the Pre-Asian Games meet in Palembang, Indonesia.

He crossed the line in 14.01 seconds to finish third behind Chan Chung Wang (13.93) of Hong Kong and Taipei's Yang Wei Ting (13.99). - GL Oh
