Labuan: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) Labuan chief coordinator Salim Abdul Rahman said Friday that former Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abd Rahman had neither the intention to grab power nor to be the Labuan divisional chief. He said he had invited Suhaili to join Warisan to help strengthen the party on the duty-free island.

"It was actually we who offered him to take the lead as he had a proven track record when he was the Labuan MP and Chairman of Labuan Corporation. With his leadership qualities, he can help us strengthen the party here.

"Suhaili only wishes to be a Warisan member and he will go through the proper channels of the party elections when the time comes. We are very certain Suhaili will abide by the party rules," he said.

Salim said a faction claiming to be the founding members of Warisan in Labuan had sent a letter to the Warisan top leadership seeking his replacement as the chief coordinator.

Warisan Labuan electoral candidate, Noor Halim Zaini, said at a press conference Friday that his group of 17 people were the founding members.

"We are the founding members of Parti Warisan Sabah in Labuan, and those who claim that 50 per cent of the founding members support Suhaili are neither the founding members nor registered members," Halim said.

He also categorically denied recent news reports claiming that more than half of the Warisan Labuan founding members had expressed their support for Suhaili to be the leader.
