Kota Kinabalu: Sepanggar Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman assured that flood mitigation programmes to widen the rivers in the constituency will be implemented to minimise the impact of floods as soon as funds have been allocated. He said an allocation for the widening of the rivers was approved by the previous government but due to the transition of power, the allocation has to be put on hold.

"I have been made to understand that an allocation to widen several rivers in the constituency has already been approved. But because of the change of government, it (allocation) has to be put on hold," he told reporters at the Merdeka Mall Hari Raya Open House, here, Saturday.

He assured that he would follow up on the matter with the Finance Minister as the allocation is critical to address the flood problem in the constituency.

Azis also said he would look into the issue of Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP), which was supposed to be able to provide ample job opportunities to Sabahans, particularly Sepanggar folks.

"I do not know what went wrong. KKIP is not what it was expected to be.

Therefore, this will be among the matters that we will look into to enable us to attract more investors as well as factories to open up to produce more job opportunities," he said.

He added that he will work closely with the Government to resolve the 28,000 squatters issue within five years as well as the land issues in the Sepanggar constituency. - Jeremy S Zabala
