Graft: Engineer is remanded

Seremban: An assistant civil engineer from the Public Works Department here, was remanded four days from Wednesday to facilitate investigation into alleged involvement in corrupt practices and abuse of power.Seremban Court Magistrate Rahimah Rahim allowed the remand order made by Negeri Sembilan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) procecuting officer Mohd Khairi Abdul Karim.

The 42-year-old suspect is believed to have solicited and received the bribe in instalments amounting to about RM18,000 for expediting and certifying work carried out by a company.

The company had been appointed as the contractor to carry out the construction of a badminton hall in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Rantau Negeri Sembilan worth almost RM2.2 million.

The suspect had allegedly committed the offence between January 2012 and May 2013.

He was detained at 3.30 pm Tuesday at the Negeri Sembilan MACC Office. –Bernama
