Chu, Janetty called up for national duty

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah's two young swimmers Chu Xin Ying and Janetty John Fabian have been selected to represent Malaysia in two separate international meets this month.13-year-old Chu from Tshung Tsin Secondary school will be taking part in the freestyle events (100m, 200m, 400m and 800m) and 200m breaststroke at the 42nd South East Asia (SEA) Age Group Swimming Championship in Laguna, Philippines starting today (Friday) until Saturday (July 8) while 14-year-old Janetty from SMK Bahang will take part in the 50m backstroke event at the 10th Asian School Games (ASG) in Shah Alam, Selangor from July 19-27.Sabah Aquatic Sports Association (Sasa) President Anthony Kiob congratulated the duo and hope they will set a good example for others to follow.ADVERTISEMENT "Congratulation to both Chu and Janetty who have done the state proud. Chu was selected by Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (Asum) while Janetty qualified through merit at this year's MSSM , and we hope their achievement will motivate other up and coming swimmers as well as to encourage more to take up the sports," he said on Wednesday.Meanwhile, a special training camp was held recently for the State Sukma swimmers at Kota Kinabalu Sports Complex and Sutera Harbour Marina Club from June 18-22.According to Kiob, the five-day session organised by Sasa was held to prepare them physically and mentally for higher level competition and team bonding among athletes and coaches.The swimmers from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and those based in Johor participated in the programme and were exposed to yoga exercise by a yoga instructor, dryland and gym training conducted by ISN personnel.ADVERTISEMENT He also said the coaches will continue to monitor their progress for the September Games in Perak.Those who attended were Hollymax Bell, Isaac Pan, Lo Jun Yi, Kuin Jiu Jun, Gerard Tsen Xiang Zhi, Lai Qian Ying, Chu Xin Ying, Janetty John Fabian, Ilyani Shairah Mohammad, Sharifah Destinee, Lovell Wong Hsiao Thang, Cheng Ka Man, Lo Meng Sum, Loo Yie Bing and Yong Zi.

Kiob also added that the Sabah Sukma diving team will also be given a one-month intensive training at Negeri Sembilan starting from July 16.The divers who will be participating are Julfaddli Bin Jali, Nurfazriyanti Binti Jali and Nur Ain Binti Nadzmi.
