Indon authorities told to tighten border control
Tawau: The Republic of Indonesia Consulate (KRI) hopes the country's enforcement agencies will tighten border control through close co-operation with Malaysia's enforcement authorities to curb illegal entry of its people into Malaysia. Its Chief Sulistijo Djati Ismojo said co-operation between the enforcement authorities is important to ensure Indonesians would not simply enter Malaysia illegally.

"In line with the 'Ops Mega 3.0' launched by the Malaysian Government starting from this month, we hope border control can be enhanced by the authorities to prevent Indonesians from being arrested for attempting to sneak into Malaysia. We also ask all agencies at the border to avoid illegally transferring Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) and obtaining identification documents, not only passport but all documents including Kartu Tanda Penduduk (Indonesian identity card)," he said in a statement, Friday.

Sulistijo advised Indonesians who wish to enter Malaysia to not use illegal routes but to comply with the rules set by the Government of Malaysia. According to Sulistijo, all these matters were submitted to the Nunukan Class II Immigration Head Office while attending Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the handling and eradication of illegal routes at the Nunukan Class II Immigration Office on Thursday.

He said the KRI Tawau entourage also visited the Indonesian Workers' Settlement (TKI) together with other agencies.

"The presence KRI in both programmes in Nunukan was an effort to show commitment and support to curb the problem in the Indonesia-Malaysia border." - Lagatah Toyos
