Mercury spill: 3 Sandakan students hurt

Sandakan: Three 14-year-old students, including two girls, were injured after a thermometer broke in the laboratory at SMK Elopura, here, at around 3pm, Wednesday.Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department Zone Chief Anddre Andrew said all three received early treatments at the location before they were sent to hospital.He said a six-member team from Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station led by operations officer Sahad Salam rushed to the scene with a fire engine and an EMRS vehicle upon receiving a distress call.

The team cleaned the mercury residue before putting it into a disposal bag before conducting an inspection to ensure there was no more danger.In another case, a changing room used to stored mattresses was destroyed in a fire at a building in SK Sungai Anib III, here, Wednesday.Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station rushed 15 firemen led by Anddre to the location with two fire engines and a water tanker upon receiving a distress call at 1.34pm.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Anddre said the fire was put under control at 2.01pm and no casualties were reported in the incident.
